Importing a DXF or DWG file results in an assembly file (*.a3d) or a part file (*.m3d).

By default, the import parameters configuration dialog shows the assembly file (*.a3d). After clicking the Start Reading button, the file is read, during which the type of the resulting file is determined:

If the source file contains no insertions, it will be read as a part. A part may comprise solids and surfaces.

If the source file contains insertions, it will be read as an assembly. An assembly may comprise solids, surfaces and components — parts or subassemblies represented by independent files, where:

a part component corresponds to an insertion containing no other insertions;

a subassembly component corresponds to an insertion containing other insertions;

component file names match the names of insertions in the source AutoCAD document.

By default, the resulting file is located in the same folder as the source file and has the same name. You can select another folder and specify another file name. To do this, enter the desired path in the Save to File field or specify the path in the dialog that appears on the screen after you click the name of the field.

If the imported model is an assembly, note the status of the Create component files option.

If this option is enabled, components of the resulting assembly will be independent models. They will be saved to separate files during import.

If the option is disabled, the components will be stored inside the resulting assembly as local models.

Enable/disable the option as necessary.
