Each designer accumulates throughout their professional career a large number of standard solutions which are not processed as a final and officially approved drawing. These can be various study cases, sketches, drafts, etc. For their storage in KOMPAS-3D, a special type of graphic document is provided — fragment. Fragment files have the extension frw.

The main distinction between a fragment and a drawing is the lack of format, title block, designation of the Surface finish of unspecified surfaces, and technical requirements. Besides, you cannot create several different views within a fragment. It can be stated that a fragment is similar to the system (zero) view of a drawing.

If fragments are inserted into graphic documents frequently, then for convenience of storage and search for fragments, element libraries can be used.
