Drawing

The basic type of a graphic document in KOMPAS-3D is a drawing.

A drawing contains a graphic image of the product, a title block, a frame, sometimes additional detailing elements (a sign of majority surface finish, technical requirements, etc.). A KOMPAS-3D drawing may contain one or more sheets. You can set a format, multiplicity, orientation and other properties for each of the sheets. The KOMPAS-3D drawing file may contain not only drawings (in the standard ESKD sense), but also schemes, posters and other graphic documents.

A drawing file has the filename extension cdw.

Fragment

The auxiliary type of a graphic document in KOMPAS-3D is called a fragment.

A fragment is different from a drawing in that it does not contain a frame, a title block and other detailing elements of the document. It is used to store images that do not need to be presented on a separate sheet (sketch drawings, drafts, etc.). In addition, standard solutions created for future use in other documents are also stored in fragments.

A fragment file has the filename extension: frw.
