Surface by path is formed by movement of the section along the path.
If the section is closed, you can plot a closed surface. If the section is open, you cannot close the surface. See the examples of plotting closed and open surfaces in the figure.

The section may be a sketch, a sketch area, a flat curve, an edge of a flat face, or a flat face. The path of motion can be any curve or a chain of curves.
