Spline mating with curves on surface

Scroll

Surface spline, i.e., a spline constructed on the selected face may be mated with the edges of this face or curves lying on it.

To create a mating, please select the spline point and the edge (curve) to mate. The spline point should belong to the selected edge (curve). Otherwise, it is impossible to create a mating.

If a spline is plotted by vertices then you can use any of its points to create a mating. If a spline is plotted by poles, you can only use terminal points.

All the matings of a surface spline are created by tangent. For more details on mating conditions, see the Conditions for curves and surfaces mating Add-Ons Curves and Surfaces.

When you create a mating, the shape of the spline near the mating point is changed. The resulting shape depends on the mating parameters.

Step-by-step instructions

1.Select the spline mating point in the graphic area or in the Point parameters table To select a point in the graphic area, first switch to edit mode).

2.Expand the group of elements Shape Management and press Conjugation in the Method button group.

3.In the graphic area, select the curve to mate with the spline in the selected point.

The selected curve will be highlighted, its name will be displayed in the Curve on surface field.

The phantom of the spline in the graphic area will be rebuilt.

4.If a spline is plotted by vertices then, after you define a curve, a set of controls appears on the Parameter Toolbar. Using these controls, you modify the shape of the spline using the tangent vector. A phantom of this vector is displayed in the graphic area. If needed, you can change the length of the tangent vector in the corresponding field and/or change its direction using the Change direction .

If a spline is plotted by poles, then the parameters of the tangent vector are not set.

When a mating is applied to a spline by poles, the displacement of points adjacent to the terminal points is restricted: they can only move along the tangent to the mating object.

This constraint is marked with a special symbol in the corresponding cells of the point parameters table.
