Editing user BOM items (i.e., created manually using the command Add base object) is produced in a regular way and is not constrained by anything.

Editing automatically generated objects based on the properties of constituent parts of the product has the following features:

Editing the text of the object
Editing the designation or name of the BOM item results in the corresponding property of the constituent part losing its link to the source. It means that a change in the property in the source file will not be transferred to the document containing the insert of an item from this file.
Property cells without reference to the source have a red frame.
To restore the link, you need to edit properties of corresponding constituents of the product, including obtaining the value of Designation or Name properties from the source.
Another, faster way to restore the link is to invoke the By Source command from the context menu of the cell with the red box. After that, the current value of the property in the cell will be replaced by the property from the source, and the red marquee will disappear.
If required, you can turn off the display of red marquees with the View — Select property cells with no connection to the source command.

Connecting and disconnecting documents
A component's source file is automatically linked to the specification object corresponding to that component.
If other documents were attached to a component in its source file, all of them, along with the component model, are attached to the corresponding BOM object in the assembly. All properties required to create a specification object are retrieved from the model, and the Format property is retrieved from the document specified for this purpose when editing the component source.
Detaching these documents from the BOM object is not possible—the button to remove a document from the list is missing in the Documents section of the Parameters Panel.
New documents can be attached to an object, and they can also be detached. The Format property from a manually attached document is automatically transferred to the object only if no document was selected for this purpose when editing the component source. If you still need to retrieve the format from an attached document, you must first clear the Format cell in the specification object. The remaining properties are always retrieved from the component model.

Changing the composition of the geometry
The geometry of the BOM item automatically and unconditionally includes the document item whose properties are used for creating this BOM item.
You can’t exclude a document item from the geometry of its corresponding BOM item.
