The feature is available only when working with an assembly model (*.a3d) and with a drawing (*.cdw).

Constituent parts of the assembly can be supplemented on the Product Components Toolbar with a blank — a special constituent part for displaying information about the product blank. The blank is linked with its original component and is always positioned after it.

The Add a blank command in the context menu of the selected component part is used for creating a template. After invoking the command on the Product Structure Panel, a new row appears below the component for which the command was invoked. Specify properties of the template using the common, if necessary attach documents to it. When you set properties for blank parts, note the following:

After completing the input of the property Name, the text “(Template for ...XXXXXX...)” is automatically added to it, where ...XXXXXX.... — designation of the initial component part.

Immediately after the blank is created, its property Quantity has the same value as the initial component. Each of them can later be edited separately, values are not transferred from one to another.

For a blank, it is impossible to set the property Position — the corresponding cell contains a dash (hyphen), and the property Specification Section — the blank always belongs to the same section as the original component.

The properties of the workpiece cannot obtain values by reference.

Controlling the inclusion of a blank part into the product and in the current description of the BOM separately from the original constituent part is not possible.

You can delete a blank from the product in the usual way — by using the Delete from product structure command. When the initial constituent part is deleted, the blank is deleted automatically.

You can also create a template in In the subordinate mode of working with BOM items, by invoking the command for the specification object corresponding to the component part, Add raw item.

If the component, to which a blank was added, is copied within the model (using arrays or other methods), then the constituent parts corresponding to the copies do not have blanks.

Notes on working with blanks in a group of identical constituents

A group of identical constituent is displayed on the Product Components Toolbar as one group row. Details...

Notes on working with blanks in a group of identical constituents:

The blank is an attribute of the group, not of the individual constituent parts within it. Therefore, the blank is displayed after the group. No blanks exist within the group.

The command to add a blank is available in the context menu both as a group row and as rows within the group. Regardless of the menu from which the command was invoked, the created template is linked with the entire group.

If a composite part with a blank is included in a group, this blank ceases to belong to the composite part and becomes a belonging of the group.

If a constituent part exits from a group with a blank, this constituent part does not have a blank (even if this constituent part had a blank before being included in the group).

Grouping of blanks is not performed. If more than one blank is required, you should not create several identical blanks, but create one and enter the necessary value for its Quantity property.

Notes on working with blanks inserted into components

The assembly may contain components, for the construction of which existing models were used as blanks. To insert a blank part, use the command Stock part. If the specification accounting is enabled for such an insert, then the component's blank is displayed on the Composition Panel when working with the assembly, as well as in the specification of this assembly.

Notes on working with constituent parts that correspond to blanks inserted into components:

The change of only one property is available — Quantity.

If there are several components with inserted blanks, then the blanks on the Product composition panel are grouped — unlike the blanks created manually according to the description above. The group of blanks is located after the group of constituent parts.
Editing the property Quantity is available both in the group rows and in the group row. If the Quantity value for a group row is edited, the cell background for this attribute becomes yellow; to revert to automatic aggregation, the Calculated value command from the cell context menu is used.
