In a text document or a table you can insert the following kinds of illustrations:

•KOMPAS-Drawing (*.cdw),

•KOMPAS-Fragment (*.frw),

•an image stored in a bitmap file (*.bmp, *.gif, *.jpg, *.png, *.tif, *.tga).

A document containing the image being inserted is called an insertion source.

To insert illustrations the following commands are used:

Fragment... — insertion of a drawing or fragment,

Figure... — Insertion of a raster image.

The commands for inserting illustrations are available if the paragraph where the cursor is set is empty or contains the given text. In the latter case insertion of an illustration automatically generates an empty paragraph where the illustration is placed.

If the paragraph with the cursor contains any object, for example, a vertical text, a table or other illustration, then the commands are not available.

Each illustration is inserted into a separate paragraph. Text wrap of the illustration is impossible.

Step-by-step instructions

1.Run the desired illustration insertion command.

The screen will display the file selection dialog.

2.Select the desired file in the dialog box and click Open. The illustration will appear in the document, and the insertion controls will appear in the Parameters panel. The full file name will be displayed in the Source File field.

3.If you need to change the insertion source, click the Source File field name and select a different file.

3.Specify the method for inserting an illustration by clicking the desired button in the group Method of Insertion:

By reference — a link to the source is created in the document without inserting the file's contents. Changes made to the source are reflected in the document containing the inserted content. When transferring a document to another workstation, the source of the inserted content must also be transferred.

By embedding — the file's contents are copied to the document and stored there. The link to the source is not maintained, and changes to the source are not reflected in the document. When transferring the document to another workstation, the source file does not need to be transferred.

When editing a previously inserted illustration, changing the source and insertion method is only possible if the current insertion method is a link. Reversing the insertion method is not possible.

4.If necessary, rotate the illustration. To do this, in the field Rotation Angle in the Parameters Panel, enter an angle value or select it from the list.

The list contains angles that are multiples of 90°.

5.If you need to resize the illustration, enter the insertion scaling factor in the box Scale. After rescaling, the insertion dimensions are recalculated. You can also specify the image dimensions in millimeters. To do this, enter the desired value in the field Width (Height) of section Insertion Size. When you change any of the parameters, the second parameter, as well as the scale, will be calculated automatically.

In the section Image information reference information is displayed. It is not editable.

6.To confirm inserting the illustration, click Create Object button. After this, the process of inserting the illustration is automatically completed. If you want to refuse to insert an illustration, click Finish before confirming.

Then you can:

•change alignment of an illustration relative to the borders of data entry field (is done the same way as for the paragraph),

•using the clipboard, move or copy the illustration as a separate character,

•delete the illustration.

To insert a bitmap image or a graphic object from a KOMPAS document into the text you can use the clipboard.

Editing inserted illustrations

You can change the parameters of illustration insertion. To do that, double-click the illustration inserted into the text or fetch the Paste Options...command from the context menu. On the screen, the Insertion Parameters dialog will appear.

You can edit any insertion parameters, including change the source file.

Note that change of the method of Insertion is possible only for illustrations by external reference – they can be embedded into the document. Reverse transformation is not available.

In the context menu of bitmap image insertion, there are the Edit with... and Edit Source commands. Using them is described in detail in section Editing raster images.
