You can generate a bill of materials based on data from another document. For the data to be transferred from the document (assembly or drawing) and displayed in the bill of materials, the document must be linked to that bill of materials, and the data must be entered.
The result of the connection is:
•Filling in the BOM
Basic objects corresponding to the product’s components are automatically created in the BOM. The values of the component properties are used to create the objects. Documents for the components are automatically linked to the objects. For example, if an assembly is linked to the BOM, the files for the corresponding models will be linked to the objects in the Parts section, and if there are drawings created for the parts, the drawing files will be linked as well.
•Filling in the main title block of the BOM.
Property values from the linked document are transferred to the BOM.
The user can customize the appearance of the BOM created in this way or amend it, for example, add or remove reserved lines, sections, construction objects and base items, etc.
One document can be connected to several BOMs, including different styles. For example, an assembly can be attached to a simple BOM (or group BOM, if the assembly has versions), and to the list of purchased products.
The user can specify which items should be displayed in the BOM of a particular style. For example, the list of purchased products usually does not contain all items, but only those that are standard items. Settings display of items in the BOM of a particular style occurs when editing a document attached to the BOM. You cannot change the set of automatically generated objects directly in the BOM.
Thus, once specified properties of the constituent parts of the product allow automatic generation of several different documents.
