Symmetry of objects

Scroll

The symmetry of two objects relative to an axis is set using the Symmetry of Objects command .

Procedure

1.Specify the axis of symmetry—an axis, a line segment, or a reference line (when working in Sketch mode, you can also select a linear model object; in this case, its reference projection will serve as the axis).

2.The name of the selected object will appear in the Symmetry Axis field on the Parameters Panel.

3.Select a method for specifying a pair of objects, and then select the objects themselves. The method you choose depends on which objects you want to make symmetrical: two separate objects, two composite objects, or a separate object and a corresponding part of a composite object.

2.1. To specify how objects are selected, set the switch Specification method to the desired position:

•The entire object — the first and second objects may be either composite objects or individual objects;

•Element — the first object can only be a single object, while the second can be either a single object or a part of a composite object that corresponds to it in type.

2.2. Indicate the objects that should be symmetrical.

If the existing constraints do not prevent the objects from being arranged symmetrically with respect to the specified axis, the image will be rearranged so that the specified condition is satisfied. The "Symmetry of objects" constraint will be applied to the objects. The objects will be arranged symmetrically with respect to the axis and will have identical dimensions.

When working with a drawing, please note that all parameterized objects must belong to the same type.

4.To finish the team's work, click the Finish button.

Constraints are displayed in the graphics area in constraint view mode. Symmetry of objects is indicated by the icon.

Additional options when applying constraints...

The Symmetry constraint may be applied automatically when creating objects in parametric mode. To enable this, the Symmetry option must be selected in the Parameterize list when configuring parametric mode. Parametric mode is configured for a drawing in the Parameterization section of the settings dialog, and for a sketch in a model, in the Sketch section. The constraint will be automatically applied to objects when the Mirror command is executed.
