Selecting curves/edges in their entirety or in parts

Selecting Curves, Edges, and Faces: General Information

When using various tools, you can select entire curves and edges, as well as the segments into which they are divided by points of intersection or tangency with other curves and edges. This feature is controlled by the Select parts of curves button. It appears in the Quick Access Toolbar and in the context menu for the current operation.

By default, the selection of curve segments and edges is disabled—the button icon has a light background. All curves and edges specified in the graphics area are selected in their entirety.

To select curves and edges in sections, click the Select parts of curves button. The background of its icon will turn dark. When you select a curve or edge in the graphics area, the selected portion will be highlighted up to the nearest intersection or tangent point.

For a multi-segment curve, the button’s behavior applies to its segments: when “Select Parts” is disabled, entire segments are selected; when enabled, only parts of the segments are selected. To select the entire multi-segment curve, specify it in the Design Tree or select all its segments in the graphics area.

Enabling the selection of curve parts is saved for the current operation until the end of the session or until the user disables it.

You can select a portion of a curve or edge during context editing only if that curve or edge belongs to the model being edited or one of its components. A curve or edge located in an assembly or another component (i.e., "external" to the model being edited) is selected in its entirety, regardless of the state of the Select parts of curves button. To be able to select parts, first create a curve in the model that mirrors the "outer" curve, for example, using the Contour or Copy Objects.

Considerations for Selecting Sketch Lines

The following sketch lines can be used for 3D constructions: lines with the "Main" style, segments with the "Axis" style, and axis lines.

If the main lines of the sketch intersect or touch other main lines, note the following feature. In settings dialog there is an option Select sketch curves with account of intersections. If it is enabled, regardless of the button's state Select parts of curves Main lines are not selected in their entirety, but rather in segments bounded by intersections with other main lines (intersections with non-baseline lines are ignored). If you need to select a baseline in its entirety, disable the option or use the Iterate Objects, which is located in the context menu of the highlighted curve. More...

When this option is disabled, the selection of main lines—as well as all other sketch lines—is determined solely by the state of the Select parts of curves button.
