KOMPAS-3D allows you to automatically generate new models based on an existing one, with property values and variables that differ from the original. Sets of values are extracted from *.ods, *.xls, or *.xlsx files. Each new model is saved to a separate file. This allows you to create a set of files corresponding, for example, to a range of standard products manufactured according to GOST or OST standards.
The set of files created based on the original model is called a model family; the original model itself is called the family template, and each model in the family is called an instance. The table containing the property and variable values for the instances is called the family table. Each row in it corresponds to a single instance.
The difference between a model family and a model with versions is that the family template and each instance are stored in separate files, whereas all instances are located in a single file with the main instance.

Please note: if a model is a family template, you cannot create a version within it; conversely, if a model contains variants, it cannot be a family template.. |
If variants are created in the family template, those same variants will also appear in the family instances.
