If necessary, you can save the component you are editing to a file with a different name or in a different location on the disk.

If both the model file containing the component and the component’s source file are open at the same time, the system will prompt you to update the component reference when you attempt to save the component file under a different name or in a different folder.

•If you want the model to reference the component file with the new name, click the References in documents should point to the new file button. This may be necessary, for example, to include the edited component in the model while preserving its original version.

•If you want the model to reference the component file with its original name, click the Keep references without changing button. This may be necessary, for example, to save an edited component without propagating its changes to the model that contains it. Note that in this case, after you finish editing the component, you should close the model that contains it without saving.

References are updated only in models that are currently open. In models that reference the same component file but were closed at the time it was saved under a different name, the references remain unchanged.
