After opening a KOMPAS document for editing, its satellite file will be created automatically.
The satellite file is a service file and it located in the same folder as the document being opened.
The name of the satellite file is generated based on the following rules:
•signs ~$ are added to the document name and stand at the first place if the document name contains no more than 6 characters;
•signs ~$ override the first and second characters, if the name contains over 6 characters;
•the sign ~ overrises the last character of the document file extension.
For example, the document SAM.CDW will have the satellite file ~$SAM.CD~, and the document SAMPLE_1.CDW will have the satellite file ~$MPLE_1.CD~.
Presence of a satellite file in the folder demonstrates that the KOMPAS document is already used and upon its re-opening it will be read-only.
The satellite file contains text information on the user who opened the document for editing, as well as the number which identifies the document on the moment of opening.
The satellite file is deleted from the folder of files automatically after closing the document which was opened for editing.
If an emergency logoff occurred, the satellite files are not deleted automatically. They may sometimes hinder repeated opening of the document (a message on opening a file for reading appears). In this case, it is recommended to delete satellite files in the Windows File Explorer manually.
On opening a KOMPAS document for reading, the satellite file is not created.
