Part – subassembly and subassembly – part transformation |
Scroll |
As part of editing the structure of the model, you can:
•Transform a part into a subassembly — saving the part inserted into the current model in a new assembly file (*.a3d),
•Transform a subassembly into a part — saving a subassembly inserted into the current model in a new part file (*.m3d).
Transformations such as part – subassembly and subassembly – part may be required when designing an assembly "top down". For example, in the initial stages of designing a gearbox the plan was to use a welded cover. Thus, the Cover was inserted into the gearbox model as a subassembly. Later it turned out that it was more expedient to make a cast cover, i.e. the component must be a part, not a subassembly. For fast editing of the gearbox model you can use the transformation of the subassembly into the part.

Note that operations with parts have certain constraints compared to operations with assemblies. For example, the components that existed in the assembly will remain in the part, but it will be impossible to perform a Boolean operation on them or separate them. |
The transformation is possible only for components that are on the first level of the model structure, i.e. inserted directly into the current model. To convert the components included in any subassembly you must switch to the editing mode of this subassembly.
To perform a transformation, select the required component — part or subassembly — in the Design Tree and invoke the Save as... command from the context menu. The standard Save File dialog box will appear.
Further steps to transform the model are similar to those described in section Saving an assembly as part and as assembly.
After the transformation is completed, the saved component is inserted into the current model instead of the previous one. The old component is removed from the model, but its file on the disk does not change.
To save changes in the current model, run the File — Save
command.

You can use the Save as... command to save components under different names and for automatic insertion of the renamed component in the current model instead of the previous one. |
