Changing the style of an existing BOM |
Scroll |
When working with a BOM document, the user can change it style.
Changing the style of a BOM is generally a more radical step compared with BOM settings. It can be called the regeneration of the BOM. Usually, when changing the style, the parameters and settings that affect the representation of items in the BOM table (for example, BOM sheet or columns set and column settings) will also change.
If at the moment of changing the style the BOM did not contain a single item, then the visible result of choosing another style would be just a changed BOM sheet.
If the BOM contained items, it will be rebuilt according to the following rules.
•The BOM sheet changes to the sheet included in the newly assigned BOM style.
•Items of the BOM will be located in sections and subsections that have the same numbers as the previous sections and subsections. For example, the items of the third subsection of the fifth section will still remain in the third subsection of the fifth section. However, the header of the fifth section may be different from the previous style of BOM. Items from a section with a number that is not found in the section numbers of the newly assigned style will not be shown in the BOM. Please note that these items are not deleted, they are just not displayed in the table, since there is no room for them in the newly assigned BOM style. If the BOMs are assigned the original style, the items will be visible again.
•Data will be transferred to the columns of the BOM items according to the column type and column number of this type. For example, the DESIGNATION(1) column of all objects in the BOM will contain data that were in their column with type DESIGNATION(1) before the change of style. It does not matter how these columns are called in the style, what is their header in the BOM sheet and in what order they are located in the form. For example, in the previous BOM style, the POSITION(1) type was assigned to the third column on the sheet, and in the newly assigned style, the POSITION(1) type is assigned to the first column on the sheet. Then the data that was previously in the third column will now be placed in the first column. If the newly assigned BOM style contains a column of some type (and type column numbers) that did not exist in the previous BOM style, the column will be empty immediately after re-generation. Subsequently, it can be filled in the usual way when editing each item. If the newly assigned BOM style does not contain a column of any type (and type column numbers) that existed in the previous BOM style, then the data from the column of this type will not be displayed in the BOM with the new style. Such data will not be removed from the item. The data can be seen when a column of the required type appears in the BOM style.
•In the same manner, data is transferred to additional columns and information is displayed in them.
A good example of a properly organized re–generation of a BOM is the change of BOM style from Simple to Group and vice versa. In these styles, sections with the same headers have the same numbers, and the corresponding graphs will have the same types. Therefore, during rebirth, all sections and the text part of the items contained in them will be preserved in the BOM.

Open any Simple BOM created by you using the system style and change its style to Group. Make sure that the form has changed, but the text part of the BOM items has remained unchanged. |
In general, changing the style of a BOM containing items is not a typical operation. In order to obtain meaningful results (and not just to a distortion of an existing document), you need to take account of the re-generation during styles (sections and graphs) setting and take account of the expected results of regeneration.
For example, if the goal is to make a BOM section invisible as a result of re–generation, this section number should not be assigned to sections in other styles. If you need to swap cells as a result of re-generation, you need to assign the same type to different cells of different forms in different styles.

You can create a BOM style for drawing up a list of purchased items and assign the number used in the Standard items section of the BOM to any section. By changing the BOM style to the list of purchased items, you get a blank sheet (assembly units, parts, etc. will not be visible in it). |

You can create a BOM style for drawing up a BOM sheet and assign the number used in the Assembly units section of the BOM to any section. By changing the BOM style to the BOM sheet, you can get a blank BOM sheet. |
|
You can create different styles of BOM with the same forms (detailings) and different combinations of sections (for example, some section numbers match the section numbers in other styles, and some section numbers are unique). In this case, you will see different lists of items in one form in case of re–generation. |
