As a rule, in a parametric image or model some variables are independent (their values can be directly input by the user), and other ones are calculated (their values depend on the values of remaining variables). When inserting a parametric fragment into another document or a model into another model, it is normally required to set the values of independent variables. The remaining variables are calculated according to the expressions existing in the fragment or model being inserted.

For example, in a parametric fragment you built an image of a lid and set dependencies between the height, thicknesses, diameter, and the diameters of holes in it using expressions.

When inserting a fragment with a lid into a drawing, the diameter and height shall be the dimensions which define all its parameters. Make the variables corresponding to the diameter and height of the lid external. Then, at the moment of inserting a fragment into the drawing you will only have to set their values. Calculation of values of the other variables and the respective rebuilding of the image will be performed automatically.

In order to quickly assign pre-defined values to external variables of a fragment being inserted (or that has been inserted), you can use the table of variables.
