In AutoCAD documents, you can combine objects from different layers into a block. Meanwhile, this block also belongs to a certain layer of the document. Visibility of a block in the AutoCAD document depends on the status of the layer of this block.

If the block layer is frozen, then no objects from this block are displayed in the document (even if the layers of these objects are visible). In all other cases (the block layer may be enabled or disabled) only the block objects from visible layers are displayed in the document.

In KOMPAS-3D there are no objects identical to the AutoCAD blocks, hence, when AutoCAD blocks are imported, their objects are merged into macro-elements.

Please select one of the three methods to import blocks, depending on the desired result:

Single-layer macro object — all the objects within a block are moved to the layer of the block (including the object of the nesting blocks, if any) and are combined into a macro-element. The states of the layers are correctly recognized: if the block layer was disabled or frozen, all its objects will be invisible. If the block layer was visible, all its objects will be visible. This import method is best suited for documents with blocks in disabled or frozen layers.

Multi-layer macro object — objects that compose a block are combined into a macro object and stay in their own layers. The status of the block layer is ignored. Visibility of each object depends on the status of the layer with this object. This import method is best suited for documents with blocks in visible layers.

Fragment Insertion — block is converted into a local fragment. The number of layers in this fragment is the same as in the source block. The status of the block layer is taken into account: if the block layer was disabled or frozen, all its objects will be invisible. If the block layer was visible, all its objects will be visible. If the source document contains several insertions of the same block, the resulting document will contain the same number of insertions o the local fragment. This method of importing blocks is best suited when the source document contains many insertions of one or more blocks. Also, when this method is used, the resulting KOMPAS document is significantly smaller than when other methods are used.

You can select the method of importing blocks on the Properties page.
