Please note the following concerning using fonts in KOMPAS-3D and AutoCAD.
•Both solutions support TrueType fonts (Windows fonts).
•KOMPAS-3D uses native vector FON fonts (not to be confused with Windows bitmap fonts).
•AutoCAD uses native vector SHX fonts.
•You cannot use SHX fonts in KOMPAS-3D.
•You cannot use FON fonts in AutoCAD.
KOMPAS-3D is supplied with the following fonts:
•TrueType:
•according to GOST 2.304-81 ESKD. Drawing fonts:
•GOST type A (font file name — gost_a.ttf),
•GOST type B (font file name — gost_b.ttf).
•GOST type AU (Unicode, font file name — gost_au.ttf),
•GOST type BU (Unicode, font file name — gost_bu.ttf),
•special characters:
•Symbol type A (font file name — symbol_a.ttf),
•Symbol type B (font file name — symbol_b.ttf),
•vector fonts (same characters as in TrueType fonts):
•GOST 2.304-81 type A (font file name — gost_a.fon),
•GOST 2.304-81 type B (font file name — gost_b.fon),
•Symbol type A (font file name — symbol_a.fon),
•Symbol type B (font file name — symbol_b.fon).
These ten fonts are automatically installed in the operating system fonts folder when KOMPAS-3D is installed in the system.
When exporting a KOMPAS document to DXF or DWG, the texts may or may not be converted to SHX fonts. To convert the fonts, please enable the Use AutoCAD font for text setting on the Text page.
When conversion is enabled, all the fonts of the source document (both vector fonts and TrueType) are replaced with SHX fonts. The typeface of characters is changed.
When exporting KOMPAS documents with vector fonts, it is recommended to convert them to SHX fonts.
If conversion is disabled, the TrueType fonts remain intact and look exactly the same in DXF or DWG document as in the source document.
|
It is recommended to user conversion if you don't have to render the font with maximum precision. The reason is that AutoCAD is working more correctly with its native *.shx fonts. |
|
Review the KOMPAS document prior to exporting. Check all the fonts used in the document and check if you need to convert them into AutoCAD fonts. |
Whatever fonts are used in the resulting documents (SHX or TrueType) , these fonts have to be installed on the computer where these documents are opened in AutoCAD. Hence, if you need to export documents to another workplace, you have to copy the fonts in addition to the documents. Which specific fonts should be transferred depends on the state of the option Use AutoCAD font for text in the export parameters configuration dialog and on the version of KOMPAS-3D in which the export was performed (see table below).

All the SHX fonts are located in the \Sys subfolder inside the main KOMPAS-3D folder. To make them available in AutoCAD and to use them when working with documents exported from KOMPAS-3D, please copy them to the \Fonts subfolder inside the main AutoCAD folder.
If needed, you can use other SHX fonts in addition to those supplied with KOMPAS-3D. For more actions, see Section Setting up character associations.
Setting up horizontal text spacing
If you want the exported text objects to fit the required size, you can use the horizontal scaling ratio (the ratio between the length of the exported text and the length of the text in the source document). There are two ways to configure horizontal text spacing: automatically or manually.
If you use automatic setup, the size of the resulting text objects will match the source objects.
If you use manual setup, you can set the required horizontal text scaling for various types of captions: texts on drawings (including dimensions and designations), tables, technical specifications, title blocks.
The horizontal text spacing is set on the Text page.
If you want to fit the size of the exported text object to the size of the source objects, please enable the Automatically setting.
To set the required text scale ratios for exported text objects, enable the User-Defined option and enter the necessary scaling values for captions of various types.
Setting up character associations
By default, if the Use AutoCAD font for text setting is enabled, then the original KOMPAS document fonts are replaced with gost_au.shx (or gost_bu.shx).
If you intend to use another SHX font, let's say, NNN.shx, the following actions are required:
1.set up the association between the KOMPAS-3D special characters and the NNN.shx characters. You can do it in the export to DXF or DWG settings dialog.
2.modify the text styles in the resulting documents to replace gost_au.shx (or gost_bu.shx) with NNN.shx in these styles. You can do it in AutoCAD.
For more details, see below.
The character mapping setup is performed on the Symbols page (the option Use AutoCAD font for text on the Text page must be enabled).
In the page view window the association table is displayed with three columns:
N — serial number of a special character in KOMPAS-3D,
KOMPAS — is an image of a special symbol with the corresponding number,
AutoCAD\u00a0\u2014 SHX font character corresponding to a special symbol in KOMPAS-3D (it will be saved in the DXF or DWG file); if the column displays the word 'no', then the corresponding special symbol is not recognized as a font character in KOMPAS-3D and is converted into a set of geometric objects.
To edit the association, please to the following:
1.Find the association you need in the table, then select the cell in the AutoCAD column.
2.Specify the symbol of the NNN.shx font corresponding to the selected KOMPAS-3D special character (to specify the symbol, you can use its Alt-code or its escape sequence if it's available in the font).
You can save the customized character association in an *.acs file. To do this, click the Save to file button
. The filename is displayed in the field on the left. Later, you can upload the corresponding generated file by clicking on the link File.
To restore default associations, click the By Default button
.
The *.acs files are text files. You can create and edit these files in any text editing program in addition to the Export Settings dialog box. Every line of the *.acs file contains one association recorded as follows: number of the special character in KOMPAS-3D, space, character of the SHX font. To learn about numbers of KOMPAS-3D special characters, see Appendix Special characters KOMPAS-3D.
If you want to edit text styles in a document exported with a customized character association, please do the following:
1.Please make sure that the NNN.shx font as defined in the export settings dialog box is present in the \Fonts subfolder inside the main AutoCAD folder. If the font is not present, then copy it to this folder.
2.Open the file exported from KOMPAS-3D in AutoCAD.
3.In the Format menu, select Text Style….
The text style setting dialog (Text Style) will be displayed on the screen.
4.Set the NNN.shx font for all the text styles in the document except for the Standard style. To do that, select the style in the Styles list, expand the Font Name list and select the NNN.shx font.
5.Close the Text Style dialog box.
|
When exporting KOMPAS-3D files for transfer to another workplace, you should also include the NNN.shx font file along with the DXF or DWG documents. |
