To extend the action of a command to some part of text (for example, when setting the symbol height), select this part preliminarily.

To select an arbitrary text fragment, place the mouse pointer at the start of this fragment, click the left mouse button and move selection in the required direction without releasing the button. Symbols of highlighted text are displayed in an inverse color.

You can select one word by a double-click on it and then select the sentence – by a click on it with the <Ctrl> key.

To select one or several strings of the text, place the mouse cursor to the left of the border of the data entry field opposite the first string which needs to be selected. When the cursor changes its appearance, click the left mouse button, and move the mouse down until the required number of rows is selected.

You can select the text with the keyboard. Place the cursor to the position from which to start selection, press the <Shift> key and, without releasing it, press the arrows keys to select in the required direction, or click a mouse at the final position of selection.

To select text by words, use the keyboard shortcuts <Ctrl>+<Shift>+<> and <Ctrl>+<Shift>+<>.

To change the borders of selection, click the mouse in a new final position with the <Shift>key pressed.

To select all the text, fetch the Edit – Select All command from the menu, or press the keyboard shortcut <Ctrl>+<A>.

To cancel selection, left-click in any place of the current window, or press one of the cursor control keys, or press the <Esc> key.
