Managing positions of array instances relative to sketch plane

Scroll

If the position of an array instance by points is specified with a sketch point, then the position of this instance is adjusted for determining the position. base point of the base instance — Projection of the current point onto the sketch plane is taken as the new base point. In this case option Project in Project section of Parameter Panel is enabled (this option is present on Parameter Panel when at least one of specified points is within a sketch).

On the figure you see an example of construction of an array whose instances are placed by sketch points (with Project option set). Base point of the base instance is point C. P1 and P2 are the sketch points. Projection of the C point to the plane of sketch, that is, C’ point, serves as the new base point.

Points that define instance positions may belong to different sketches. For these instances positions of the new base point (C’) will differ, as the base point of the base instance will be projected to the planes of different sketches. The instances will be placed differently relative to their own base points.

If there is no need to use base point projections, disable the Project option. The array will be constructed in a usual way.

On the figure you see an example of array construction with disabled Project option. Point C is the base point of the base instance, and points C1 and C2 are sketch points.

Option Project has no effect on placement of instances whose positions are set not by sketch points but by other point objects.
