Determination of the Flat Pattern Length by Specifying Bend Reduction

The flat pattern length of the cylindrical part of the bend l is calculated according to a formula:

l = 2 · a - BD, where

BD (an abbreviation for Bend Deduction) — is the bend reduction, specified by the user;

a is a geometric parameter of the bend which is automatically defined by the system (see Table).

Defining the parameter a for different bend angles α


α<90°

α>90°



a = (R + S) · tg(α/2)

a = (R + S)

The full length of the flat pattern L when flattened is calculated according to a formula:

L = A' + B' – BD.

Bend unfolding: a) bend is folded, b) bend is unfolded

For bend angles α>90°, the bend deduction value BD may be negative.
