Placement of Dimension Text |
Scroll |
When creating/editing a dimension, you can use various placement options for the dimension text. The option selection is available for all sizes except sizes with a general dimensional line (linear and angular).
To select the appropriate option, use the Text Location group of buttons in the Additional parameters section. For a detailed description of options, see the table.
Text placement options
Name |
Description |
|
|
Automatic |
The text placement option is automatically determined based on the user-defined dimension text position. Notes on Automatic Placement of the Text... This option is unavailable (the button is not displayed) for the following dimensions: linear chain dimension, linear dimension trimmed, jogged radial dimension and angular dimension trimmed. |
|
Manual |
Position of dimension text is user-defined. |
|
Fixed |
The dimension text has three predefined positions: in between or outside extension lines. |
|
To the right |
Selecting one of these options creates a leader with a landing of selected direction for text placement. You can change the leader landing direction using one of the following methods. •To reverse landing direction, move the cursor to the right/left (if the landing is horizontal) or up/down (if the landing is vertical). •To rotate a landing, scroll the mouse wheel while holding down the <Ctrl>key. When changing the direction of the landing, a switch between text placement options on the landing is performed. When further editing a dimension with text on the landing, you can change leader parameters using the Leader Length and Leader Angle fields (slope angle to the X-axis of the current coordinate system). |

After the required option is selected, position of dimension text is indicated using the mouse in the document’s graphic area. Specify one point for dimensions without landing (this point also determines position of dimension line); specify two points for dimensions on a landing: the first point determines position of dimension line and the start of the leader line; the second point determines the start of the landing.
Notes on Automatic Placement of the Dimension Text
Automatic placement of dimension text works as follows. When the user specifies position of dimension text, the system automatically selects a placement option – fixed, manual or on a landing. However, in the Text Placement group, the Automatic button remains pressed
. Subsequently, when dimension is edited, the automatic placement button is not displayed. A button in the Text Location group is selected for the placement option automatically selected by the system when creating the dimension.
To be able to select Fixed or Manual placement in the automatic placement mode, do the following.
1.Move the cursor to set the position of the dimension line.
2.When the line moves to the right position, move the cursor along the line without fixing it. Text location will change.
3.When the dimension text is located the way you want it, click the mouse button.
If the cursor is next to one of the predefined points – in the middle of the dimension line or outside extension lines – the dimension text will be automatically placed at this point. In this case, fixed placement of dimension text is used.
If dimension text is in random position, manual placement is used.
|
When dimension text is moved along the dimension line, it is placed so that it does not intersect with extension lines or appear above the arrows. If you need to position dimension text randomly, move the cursor while holding down <Alt>. |
To place dimension text on a landing, do the following.
1.Move the cursor to set the position of the dimension line.
2.When the line moves to the right position, press and hold <Ctrl> without fixing the position.
3.Move the cursor, then release <Ctrl>. The position of the dimension will be fixed; the leader line and horizontal landing will appear. In this case, the starting point of the leader line will be in the midpoint of the dimension line.
|
When placing radial dimensions, pressing and holding the <Ctrl> key does not fix the position of the dimension line. |
4.Move the cursor to set the start and direction of the landing. To rotate the landing, scroll the mouse wheel while holding down <Ctrl>.
5.To fix the starting point of the landing, click the mouse button.
