To open a backup file, in Windows File Explorer delete the bak file extension, start the KOMPAS-3D system, and open the file in the usual way by selecting File — Open.
The system KOMPAS-3D is not associated with files that have the bak extension as a program for opening them. Therefore, double-clicking on the *.bak file in Windows Explorer does not automatically launch KOMPAS-3D. On the screen, a dialog for selection of software program appears. Specify the system executable file KOMPAS-3D (KOMPAS.exe) as the program to open the file — the system will be launched, and the selected file will be opened in it.

It is not recommended to enable the Use for all files of this type option in the program selection dialog. Document backup files with the bak extension are generated by various programs. If the KOMPAS-3D system is compared with files having the bak extension, then when attempting to open such a file saved by other programs, an error message will be displayed on the screen. |
The second way of opening a backup file is as follows: start the KOMPAS-3D system and execute the File — Open command. In the File Type list of the dialog that opens, select the All files (*.*) line, and in the list of files – the required file with the bak extension. The KOMPAS-3D system will determine the type of document saved in the backup and open it. Save the opened file using the File – Save as... command. An extension matching the type of document will be automatically assigned to the files being saved.
