Selecting objects being copied

Scroll

After calling the array creation command, the system enters the mode of selecting objects for copying. At that, the Parameters panel contains buttons of the Type group intended for selecting the type of objects to be copied:

Auto determination,

Operations (using operations to build an array has limitations, see sect. Peculiarities of copying some operations),

Bodies or surfaces (an array of either bodies or surfaces is built, i.e. an array cannot include both bodies and surfaces at the same time),

Faces (the selected faces must belong to the same body or surface),

Curves, points, auxiliary geometry (curves, points, auxiliary planes and axes can be objects of the same array),

Arbitrary — button is present on the Parameters panel when creating all arrays except for the mirror array (see the section on creating an array of arbitrary objects). Array of arbitrary objects. Tips & tricks),

Components — button is present on the Parameters panel when creating all arrays, except for the mirror array..

When constructing a array by pattern, the Type group contains only the Components button, since the source objects of such an array can only be model components.

To select the desired object type, click the appropriate button. Elements for configuring an array for objects of the selected type will appear on Parameter Toolbar.

Specify source objects to build the array (for features of using various types of objects in an array, see section Features of using various types of objects for building an array). Note that when the object type is selected, you can only specify objects of this type. It may be convenient when selecting objects by a marquee — only objects of the required type will be selected from all objects inside the marquee.

If required, you can use auto determination of object types (the Auto determination button is pressed by default). In this case, the type of copied objects will be determined automatically after you specify the first of these objects: the button that corresponds to the type of this object will become pressed. When selecting objects with the Auto determination button pressed, consider the following features (see below). We recommend using filters.

Objects selected for building an array are highlighted in the graphic area of the model, and their names are added to the list of copied objects on the Parameter panel. The name of the list reflects the type of selected objects.

Before completion of the command, the system memorizes all objects of different types selected for copying, therefore you can switch between types without losing these data.

Choosing the type of copied objects is only possible when creating an array. When editing an array, you cannot change the type of objects being copied — the Type is not available on the Parameters panel.

Features of object selection for the Auto determination option

If source objects for building an array are selected with the Auto determination button pressed, note the following.

Features of object selection in the graphic area

Specifying objects with the mouse
When specifying an edge, face, or vertex of a solid, the type Operations is included, whereas when specifying an edge, face, or vertex of an object that is part of a component, the type Components is included. To specify a solid, select the type Solids or surfaces (see above) or enable the corresponding filter.

Object selection by marquee

If elements of solids and surfaces are contained within the marquee, then either solids or surfaces are selected, and the type Solids or surfaces is enabled.

If the frame contains a component (or a part of a component in case of a split frame), the component is selected and the Components type is enabled.

You can select an operation only with an encompassing frame, provided that the frame contains all the faces of the operation and that the element obtained by this operation is not a separate body. For example, you can select an operation that builds a hole as a frame (the frame must be of such size that all the faces of the hole, both visible and invisible, fall into it).

The selection of bodies in the Model Design tree is possible if the Tree is displayed as a model structure.

For the system to automatically define the object type as Arbitrary, the first object specified must be a sketch.

For the system to automatically detect the object type as Faces, the first object specified must be a facet of the operation or surfaces with history-free object.
