The feature is available only when working with an assembly model (*.a3d) or a drawing (*.cdw).

The Position property values of assembly components can be determined automatically. This is done using the command Set Ref.Nos . The command button is available on the BOM panel if the display of the column Position is enabled.

The Set Ref.Nos command is also available in the context menu of the column header Position — provided that there are no BOMs associated with the assembly.

After invoking the Set Ref.Nos command, the values of the Position property for the assembly components are recalculated and displayed in the Position column. Previous values, if they were set, will be deleted. If there are leader landings in the assembly, the new numbers are also displayed in the graphical area — on the leader landings.

Automatic updating of reference numbers is not provided, i.e., if the numbering has been disturbed – for example, as a result of the deletion/addition of constituent parts of product or changes in their designations/names – it is necessary to set the reference numbers again.

Numbering is done with the reserved lines taken into account. The number of them in all sections is considered equal to 2, i.e., the numbering in the section starts with a number that is 2 greater than the number of the last BOM item in the previous section.

The arrangement of position numbers will be affected BOM style settings, included in current description, as well as the assembly settings:

Start numbering at the initial position numbers specified during the BOM style settings.

If the sorting by desending order within the section configuration enabled., then the numbers are assigned first to the constituent parts of the last section, then to the penultimate section, and so on.

The components are skipped in the calculation of item numbers for  that

are located in the sections with with designations placing disabled

either excluded from the product BOM or from the current description of the BOM.

In this case, the positions of the omitted components are removed if the components are excluded from the product composition, and remain unchanged if the components are excluded from the current specification description.

For example, if the first component in a section has position 1, and the second is excluded from the product composition or from the current specification description, the third component will receive position 2.

Constituent parts corresponding to constituent parts for which editing is forbidden are not skipped; however, their current positions cannot be changed due to the editing restriction. For example, if the first component in the section has position 1, and editing is forbidden for the second component, then the third component will receive position 3. The position of the second component will not change.

If all constituent parts of a section are excluded from product BOM or from the current description of BOM, reserved lines of such a section are not taken into account during numbering (it is considered that there are 0 reserved lines in it).
