To build a centerline – a bisector of angle formed by two indicated rectilinear objects, do the following actions.

1.Run the Auto Centerline command.

After invoking the command, the cursor will take the shape of a square "trap".

The size of the cursor’s trap can be changed in the in the Cursor Settings dialog.

2.Set parameters of the centerline using elements of the Parameters sector. The setup is done the same was as the setup of rendering the designation of the center. Details...

3.Select design method of a centerline by pressing the required button in the Tracing mode group:

By objects – the boundaries of the axis will be determined automatically relative to the specified objects,

With the indication of the borders — the borders of the centerline are set by the user.

4.Indicate objects for building a centerline.

If the method By objects is selected , specify two line segments. An axis line will be constructed on the bisector of the angle formed by these segments. The first point of the axis line is the intersection of the angle bisector with the line connecting the endpoints of the segments. The position of the second point is determined as follows:

if the segments intersect, then the second point is the point of their intersection (figure a),

if one segment intersects with the continuation of another segment, then the second point is the point of their intersection (figure b),

if the segments do not intersect, then the point lies at the intersection of the angle bisector with the line passing through the initial points of the segments (figure c).

If the segments are parallel, the axis will be equidistant from the segments. Its points are located on the lines connecting the endpoints of these segments.

After specifying two segments, the creation of the centerline is automatically completed.

If With specifying borders method is selected, specify two line segments, then the first and second points of the centerline. The centerline will be constructed on the bisector of the angle formed by the specified segments (Figure a). If the points specified are not on the extension of the bisector, the boundaries of the centerline are the projections of the specified points onto this line.

Existing curves can be specified to define the boundaries of the centerline. The boundaries of the centerline will be the points of its intersection with the selected curves (Figures b, c).

After specifying the objects and boundaries, the centerline is automatically completed.
