Associative objects. Constraint «Associativity»

An associative dimension/label is linked to a base object (for example, a base label is linked—associated—with a line segment representing the base surface).

Dimensions can be associated not only with geometric objects, but also with other dimensions or elements. For example, a base dimension, a roughness dimension, or a leader line can be linked to a dimension, and you can select the desired dimension element: a dimension line, a leader line, a leader, or a shelf.

If the Associativity constraint applied to a dimension or label has been removed, or if you need to associate the dimension or label with a different object, you must enter edit mode for the dimension or label and specify the desired base object.

When you delete or explode an object, all its associated dimensions and designations are deleted. Be careful when you transform a dimension on a landing to a dimension without landing: if any designations were associated with a leader or a landing, they will disappear.

Note the following features of some associative designations.

•Datum symbol, geometric tolerance designation

•If a designation branch is associated with a dimension line of a dimension, then it is oriented along this line and located outside it. Due to this, immediately after creation of a geometric tolerance designation branch associated with the dimension line will have two segments, one of them lying on the dimension line extension. These two segments cannot be transformed into one (i. e., the vertex between them cannot be deleted) as long as the designation is associative.

•If a designation branch is associated with another object, it can be arbitrarily oriented with respect to this object.

•Leader (including as part of other designations)
All or some branches of a leader can be associated with objects. To make a branch associative or non-associative, enable or disable the parametric mode prior to creating this branch.

•Projection designationsUnlike other associative objects, a linear dimension has no Associativity constraint, but is considered associative if the start points of its extension lines coincide with the points of the geometric object. This is why a non-associative linear dimension can be manually associated with the required object by applying the Point Coincidence (and/or Curve Midpoint) constraint to the extension lines of the dimension.

Projection designations (i. e., designations sent to the drawing from a model) can only be associated with other projection designations or with geometric objects constituting a model’s projection. For example, you can associate a datum designation set to a model face with a dimension. More details on working with projection designations...
