Recovery of documents from autosave files |
Scroll |
After abnormal termination of the system operation, recovery of documents from futosave files is performed automatically.
To do this, you must launch the system at KOMPAS-3D using any standard method, except for double-clicking the filename in the file manager that was being edited or was open at the time of the crash. The reason is that launching the system by double-clicking the filename does not restore the document. Instead, a file is opened that contains the document’s state at the time of the last save before the crash. Obviously, if a relatively short autosave interval was set during configuration, the autosave file will most likely contain more changes than the last manually saved version of the document.
After the system has booted up correctly, it searches for auto-save files in the folder designated for storing these files. The corresponding documents are then restored from all the files found.
A special icon appears in the tab header of the restored document
. In addition, when you hover over a tab title, not only do a thumbnail of the document and its path appear, but also the text [restored]. These indicators remain until the document is edited for the first time.
To save the recovered document to disk, use one of the following save commands:
•File — Save — to write to the same file as before the system crashed,
•File — Save as... — to save to a new file (the auto-save file from which the document was restored will be deleted).
If the system was started up by double-clicking the file which was being edited at the time of emergency shutdown (let's name it "file X"), the document ("document X") saved to this file will not be recovered: document X opens in the same state in which it was last saved to the disk. If other documents were open at the time of the crash in KOMPAS-3D, they will be restored. Deleted are all the autosave files except that which matches the document. This autosave file remains on the former place and is not changed at any operations with document X.
Thus, after the «wrong» start-up it is necessary to perform the following actions.
1.Save all recovered documents.
2.Close document X without saving.
3.Close the system.
4.Start up the system in an alternative way.
5.Save document X recovered from the autosave file which matches file X.
