Transformation of solids and surfaces to polygonal objects |
Scroll |
A polygonal object can be created by transforming a solid or surface constructed in the model. Such an object is a polygonal object with topology and is denoted by the icon
. In the Design history tree, it is subordinate to the operation that created it.
The original solids and surfaces are preserved in the model, so the set of solids and surfaces in the model remains unchanged.
Polygonal objects obtained by transforming solids/surfaces are linked to the reference geometry. Changes to it are reflected in the polygonal objects.
|
You can break the link between polygonal objects and the reference geometry using the Explode command. The command is applied to the transformation operation to which the objects are subject. |
The command used to convert solids and/or surfaces into polygonal objects is Convert to a polygonal object
.
Instructions
1.Specify the solids and/or surfaces to be represented as polygonal objects. Each selected solid and surface will be transformed into a separate item.
In the graphic area, to select a solid/surface, you need to specify its associated object (face, edge, vertex), and in the Design Tree, specify the solid/surface feature or the solid/surface itself if the Tree has a structural representation view.
Names of the selected objects/surfaces are displayed in the Objects field on the Parameters toolbar.
2.Specify the approximation parameters to be used during the conversion process. To do this, set the switch in the Approximation Precision group to the desired position:
•Default — the approximation parameters are calculated by the system based on the specified rendering accuracy.
•Customizable — the approximation parameters are specified by the user. The following parameters can be configured:
•Maximum linear deviation — the maximum permissible deviation of the normal to the resulting triangular face from the original surface.
Set the switch to position I (on). Two fields will appear on the Parameter Panel—one with a "slider," the other with a numeric value. Move the "slider" to the desired value or enter this value in the adjacent field. When you move the "slider," the value in the input field changes, and when you enter a value manually, the "slider" moves automatically.
You can use the "slider" to set a value of up to 1 mm. If the value needs to be greater, use the input field, which allows you to specify a value up to 30 mm. If a value of 1 mm or more is entered in the field, the "slider" is in the far-right position.
•Maximum angular deviation — the maximum allowed angle between the normals of adjacent triangular faces.
Set the switch to position I (on). Two fields will appear on the Parameter Panel—one with a "slider," the other with a numeric value. Move the "slider" to the desired value or enter that value in the adjacent field. Moving the "slider" changes the value in the input field, and manual entry automatically moves the "slider." The range of values that can be set is 0.1–90 degrees.
•Maximum edge length — the maximum edge length of the resulting triangular face.
Set the switch to position I (on) and enter the desired value in the field that appears.
If the set value is less than the recommended value, a warning message will appear next to the field. You can change the value according to the recommendation or leave it as is. In the latter case, the surface of the polygonal object will contain too many triangles, which will increase the operation time and make further work with the model more difficult.
3.You can select a coordinate system relative to which polygonal objects will be located — their vertices will be expressed in the selected coordinate system.
To select the coordinate system, use the SC list in the Coordinate System section. If necessary, you can create a local coordinate system without interrupting the operation. To do that, use the Design LCS button
, located next to the list. After pressing the button, the subprocess of creating the LCS starts. Specify the LCS parameters and click Create object. The system will return to the process of transforming bodies and surfaces. The new LCS will be added to the list of coordinate systems and will be automatically selected.
3.If necessary, set the name of the created object and the properties of its display using the controls located in the Properties section. Management of color and optical properties of objects...
|
In case several solids or surfaces are transformed, the specified properties will be applied to each of the resulting polygonal objects. |
4.To complete the operation, click Create object
.
One or more polygonal objects will be added to the model, depending on the selection of solids/surfaces.
Each polygonal object is displayed in graphic area as a triangulation grid over imposed on source solids/surfaces. The Design Tree contains a name and the icon of the polygonal object
.
Operations used to create source solids/surfaces are saved in the model. The set of solids and surfaces in the model does not change.
5.To complete operation of the command, click Finish
.
