General information about object filters

When specifying objects in the graphics area in «trap» The cursor may highlight several objects of different types at once, and the one you want to select may not be the one that is highlighted.

Filters are used to make it easier to select objects of the desired type.

You can enable either a single filter or multiple filters at the same time.

If you move the cursor while filters are enabled, only objects of the corresponding types are highlighted in the graphics area. These objects are available for selection. Objects of other types cannot be selected.

Filter scope

Objects can be specified both while a command is being executed and before it is called; for example, the cross-section of an extrusion can be specified either before or after calling the Extrusion element command. In addition, different types of objects are required to execute different commands. Therefore, the set of filters is configured separately for each command and for the state when no commands are running.

•To filter objects while a specific command is running, enable the desired filters when the command is launched. The resulting combination of filters applies only to that command and is enabled each time it is called.

•To filter objects outside of command execution, enable the filters when no command is running.

Filters configured for a specific command also apply to the model's additional window, if one appears while that command is running.

Filter settings are saved for the current modeling session. This setting is not carried over to the tabs of other documents open in the "KOMPAS-3D" window.

Enabling/disabling filters. Display in the model window

Filters are enabled using the filtering commands found in the Filter Objects menu.

By default, none of the filtering commands are active. This means that filters are not being used, and any type of object can be selected in the graphics area.

To enable a filter for a specific object type, select the command named after that type. The background of the icon in the command bar will change to dark gray—an indication that the command is active.

Similarly, invoke the commands for all the types you need. This allows you to create a set of objects that can be selected (see the section Filtering Commands: Combining Filters).

If at least one of the filters is enabled, an icon appears in the graphics area, and the Filter Objects button on the Quick Access Toolbar has a dark background. This indicates that object filtering mode is active.

Since filters are configured individually (see the Filter Scope section), the indicators of filter mode are visible only in those processes for which filters are enabled.

While working with the model, you can change the set of filters. You can also disable all filters at once—this will turn off filtering mode. These actions apply to the process currently running, or to the selection of objects outside of any active commands if no process is running.

Filtering commands. Combining filters

Filter comands can be divided into three groups:

•1st group — three-dimensional primitives:

Faces,

Edges,

Vertices,

•2nd group — objects that have primitives:

Components,

Solids,

Surfaces,

Polygonal Objects,

Curves,

Points,

Sketches,

Coordinate systems,

Control Points,

•3rd group — objects that don't have primitives:

Axes,

Planes,

Layout elements,

Labels,

Tables,

Threads.

Commands groups are divided in the menu by separators.

You can select several types of objects for filtering by running the required commands from the menu. It's available to switch filters at any moment of working with the model.

You can filter using several filters simultaneously in the following ways.

•Combination of filters. If all selected filters belong to one group, you can filter either all primitives or all objects if their buttons are pressed. In this case, entire objects are highlighted.

•Example 1. When the Components and Surfaces commands are active, all components and surfaces of the model are available for selection.

When specifying an object, the cursor shape changes to match dynamic targeting of component or surface .

•Example 2. When the Vertices, Edges commands are active, all vertices and edges of the model are available for selection.

When selecting an object, the cursor changes its form to match dynamic targeting of vertices or edges.

•Applying filters. If you select filters from different groups, for example, from the 1st and 2nd groups, you can, as a result, filter primitives which objects of the selected types have. In this case, instead of entire objects, their primitives are selected – edges, faces or vertices.

•Example 1. When the commands Edges and Components are active, only the component ribs are available for selection.

When selecting an object, the cursor shape changes to match dynamic targeting of edges .

•Example 2. When the Faces and Points commands are active, filtering is not performed since the point does not have a “face” primitive.

Filters of the 3rd group are not used in applying filters, they are only used for combination of filters.
