When exporting to STEP, JT, and STL formats, you can use configurations.

Configurations allow you to reuse previously saved export settings or transfer them to other workstations.

A configuration is a file containing a list of exportable object types and export parameters. Configuration files have different extensions for different export formats; see the table.

Configuration files have different file extensions but share a common format, similar structure, and content; therefore, when exporting a model, you can apply a configuration created for exporting to a different format.

Configuration files can be viewed and edited in any text editor.

Saving and loading the export configuration occurs during the model export process.

The Save to File button is used to save the settings. .When you click the button, the standard Save File dialog appears on the screen. After saving, the path to the configuration file and its name are displayed in the Configuration field.

To load an existing configuration, click the field name Configuration. This action brings the standard Open File dialog box where you can choose a configuration.

When you open a configuration file, the system automatically suggests a correct file extension for the current document format. But you can load any configuration, even for other file formats. To do this, in the file open dialog, you need to select File Type — All Files (*.*) and choose the configuration file with the required extension. Configuration files for import and export of different formats are similar in structure and contents, therefore you can use the matching parameters for import and export of other formats.

If a configuration has been loaded, the configuration settings are applied when exporting the current document and when performing other saving operations in a session at KOMPAS-3D. These settings also apply to documents exported without applying the configuration, i.e., using the Save As.... command.

If no configuration has been loaded, the default export settings from KOMPAS-3D are used.

If the export settings are changed for the current file but not saved to a configuration file, they are applied only once, i.e., only for writing that specific file.
