Option 1

In the file manager, rename the backup file by removing the part «.bak», Then launch the system at KOMPAS-3D and open the file in the usual way by running the command File — Open.

Option 2

The second way of opening a backup file is as follows: start the KOMPAS-3D system and execute the File — Open command. In the File Type list of the dialog that opens, select the All files (*.*) line, and in the list of files – the required file with the bak extension. The KOMPAS-3D system will determine the type of document saved in the backup and open it. Save the opened file using the File – Save as... command. An extension matching the type of document will be automatically assigned to the files being saved.

KOMPAS-3D is not set as the default program for opening files with the .bak extension. Therefore, double-clicking a *.bak file does not automatically launch KOMPAS-3D. A dialog box for selecting a program appears on the screen. Specify the KOMPAS-3D version file as the program to open the file. The system will launch and open the selected file.

We do not recommend setting KOMPAS-3D as the default program for opening .bak files. Document backup files with the .bak extension are created by various programs. If KOMPAS-3D is associated with files that have the .bak extension, an error message will appear when you try to open such a file saved by other programs.
