KOMPAS-3D uses dynamic object highlighting. This means that an object is highlighted when the cursor hovers over it. When the cursor moves away from the object, the highlighting disappears. Instructions for setting the color of highlighted objects are provided in the Editing section.

Dynamic search is available outside of command operations, when no processes are running, as well as during certain operations. When the cursor hovers over an object while an operation is in progress, the object that can be selected for that operation is highlighted.

When using dynamic search, it becomes possible to select one of the nearby objects (including those overlapping each other). The corresponding commands in the context menu are used to cycle through nearby objects. These commands are available if multiple objects fall within the cursor’s “trap” when an object is selected (or highlighted).

Dynamic object search settings are configured in the Object Search section of the settings dialog.

To access this section, select the Settings — Parameters... command and in the dialog box that appears, select System — Graphic editor — Object search.

Description of the setting

Use dynamic object selection

This option allows you to enable or disable dynamic object search in a drawing.

When this option is disabled, dynamic search is not performed outside of command operations, when no process is running, or in commands for creating and editing geometric objects..

Object search delay, ms

With dynamic search, a graphic document object is not highlighted immediately, but only after the cursor hovers over it. This field allows you to enter a delay value (in milliseconds)—the amount of time the cursor must remain over the object before dynamic search is triggered.

Once you have finished configuring the settings, click the Apply and Close button. To exit the dialog without saving your changes, click the Cancel button.
