Hole Placement

To create holes, you can select:

•single point objects (e.g., curve vertices, 3D points, sketch points);

•Objects containing points: sketches with points, unfolded/collapsed/projection curves, groups of points along a curve/on a surface/from a file, and arrays of auxiliary geometry containing points.

The names of the selected objects are displayed in the Points field in the Main section of the Parameter Panel.

Orientation of the hole axes

By default, the axes of holes are perpendicular to the placement surfaces. In this case, the Perpendicular to surface switch is set to I (on). In this scenario, holes are created only using points associated with the placement surfaces during construction. For example, a point projected onto a surface is associated with that surface, sketch points are associated with the sketch plane, and so on. Points not associated with placement surfaces are ignored.

You can change the orientation of the hole axes. To do this, expand the Advanced options section and set the"Perpendicular to Surface toggle to 0 (off). When the toggle is off, holes can be created at all selected points. To do this, you must specify the orientation of the hole axes.

Ways to set or change the orientation of hole axes:

1.Selecting a guide object.

Specify a reference object in the graphics area or in the Design Tree. The name of the selected object is displayed in the Axis Direction field. A reference object can be:

•straight line object — sets the axes of the holes to be parallel to itself;

•flat object — specifies the direction of the hole axes perpendicular to its plane;

•non-planar face — the axis of each hole is defined by a line passing through the point corresponding to the hole and its projection onto the theoretical surface of the face; if there are multiple projections, the one closest to the point is selected.

2.Creating a direction vector.
The direction of the hole axes will be parallel to the vector.

To construct the guide vector, click the Design vector button to the right of the field Axis direction. The process of constructing the vector will start. Follow the steps required to build the object, and click the Create Object button. The system will return to the hole creation process, and the created vector will be automatically selected as the guide object.

Construction direction

If necessary, you can reverse the direction of the line by clicking the Change Direction button to the right of the field Distance in the group Hole on the Parameters panel.

When creating center holes from the library, where the depth is determined by the sum of certain parameters, use the Change Direction button in a group Direction.
