To execute many commands, you need to select objects. For example, when working with commands to build three-dimensional elements, you need to specify the reference objects — sketches, vertices, edges, faces, auxiliary axes, planes, etc. The required objects can be selected either before starting the command or during its execution.

In addition, the selection of an object may be required to view and edit its parameters. In this case none of the commands will be launched. Parameters of the selected object will be displayed in the Parameter Panel (see the section Parameter Panel when changing the object's parameters).

You can select objects in the model's graphic area or in the Structure Tree.

In the Design Tree, the entire object is selected while in the graphic area you can select individual parts of the object (if any). For example, to use the entire broken line as a guide for a path operation, you should specify it in the Design Tree, to use one or several segments of the broken line, you should specify them in the graphic area. Another example: by specifying an extrusion surface in the Design Tree you can find all of its intersection lines with the plane, however, by specifying an individual face of this surface in the graphic area you can find the intersection line of the face and the plane.

For quick selection of the required object types in the graphic area you can use Filters.

Objects such as bodies and components cannot simply be selected in the graphics area. To select them, you must enable the appropriate filter. You can also select a body or component in the Assembly Tree. To do this, the model structure view must be enabled in the Tree. There is another way to select a body or component: specify the object to which it belongs and select the following command from the context menu Select Body or Select Component , respectively.

To select objects, you can use the special commands found in the Select menu.

Often, executing a command requires selecting an object with specific geometric properties. For example, to cut a portion of a model with a plane, you must specify the object that will serve as the cutting plane. Such an object can be a flat face, a coordinate plane, or an auxiliary plane.

Depending on its geometric properties, an object may belong to one of the types given in the Table.

Model object types

Object type

Objects belonging to this type

Point objects

•origin of coordinates,

•characteristic point of a geometric object in the sketch,

•individual point in the sketch,

•individual point in space,

•vertex of the spatial curve,

•vertex of the edge,

•group points,

•points included in the point array instances,

•control and attachment points.

Straight–line objects

•segment,

•segment in the sketch,

•segment of the broken line,

•coordinate or construction axis,

•straight edge,

•centerline;

•The axis of the rotation surface, except for the sphere (in certain commands; to select the axis, specify the rotation surface)..

Flat objects

•coordinate plane or construction plane,

•flat face,

•sketch plane (for certain commands),

•planar curve (for certain commands).

The selected objects are highlighted in the graphics area. The highlight color can be configured.

If required you can cancel the objects selection. If there are no active commands, click blank space in the graphic area or press <Esc>. If objects are selected in the process of commands execution then use the Parameters Toolbar elements to cancel the selection.

You can invert the selection using the <Shift> and <Ctrl> keys (for more details see the section Selecting objects in the Graphic area).
