Saving user settings and data when updating and deleting KOMPAS-3D

Scroll

When you delete KOMPAS-3D, all files created in the installation folders during installation are deleted. When updating KOMPAS-3D, these files are replaced with new ones.

The installation folders also contain files that can potentially be changed by the user, since they determine the appearance of documents or contain background information. Most of them are located in the \Sys folder, for example: the graphic design library file GRAPHIC_2023.LYT, the GRAPHIC.DNS density reference file.

To ensure that the changes made by the user are not lost as a result of updating or deleting KOMPAS-3D, it is recommended to proceed as follows when making these changes.

1.Create a new \Sys folder by copying the \Sys folder created during installation to another location.

2.Create file KOMPAS.ini and specify the path to the new location of the \Sys folder in it. More about file KOMPAS.ini...

3.Change the contents of a new folder \Sys:

3.1If you need to add your own styles or adjust the supplied styles, designs, etc., create the appropriate libraries. For example, this applies to files such as:

•libraries of document layouts and BOM styles (*.lyt),

•libraries of line styles (*.lcs), hatches (*.lhs), texts (*.lts),

•property libraries (*.lpt).

Library files must have unique names. Library files included in the package should not be edited.

3.2. If you need to change the data, which does not involve changing the name of the file containing it, edit the necessary files. For example, this applies to files such as:

•user menu file (GRAPHIC.PMN),

•density reference file (GRAPHIC.DNS).

Files added by the user to the installation folders are not deleted when KOMPAS-3D is uninstalled and are not replaced when updating. Therefore, in the case of 3.1. — adding files to the \Sys folder — moving this folder to another location is optional, but recommended. This approach serves to unify the working methods in KOMPAS-3D.

If any other folders are being changed (for example, the folder with document templates - \Templates), then they should also be placed elsewhere, specifying the paths in KOMPAS.ini.

If you need to share added and/or modified files, then the folders containing them should be placed on a shared resource, see the section Recommended system setting of KOMPAS-3D during the shared work. Otherwise, it is not necessary, i.e. folders can be stored locally.
