Each style has a number that is assigned when the style is created.

Numbers of styles stored in the documents and sets may be the same because these styles are used directly (without creating links).

Styles stored in a library should have different numbers. The reason is, when you assign a library style to a document object, a link to this style is created. The link includes the full name of the library and the number of the style from this library.

If you try to put a style into a library (by creating or copying the style), appears a warning dialog. This dialog box contains the names of the styles with the same number and the control buttons.

If a library contains a style with the same number and name as the newly added style, then a prompt to overwrite the existing style with the new style will appear on the screen. You can confirm the overwrite, or cancel it.

If it is likely that you may share styles between several libraries, please take care to assign different numbers to styles in these libraries. This will help to avoid the above mentioned conflicts.
