If an object (line, hatch or text) uses a non–system style, there are two methods to store the information about this style in the document.

Method 1: the style is stored inside the document (embedded style).

Method 2: a link to a library that contains the style is stored (library style).

You can view all the links in a current document, including links to external style libraries, in the External References tab in the document information dialog box. To open this dialog box, run the File – Document information... command.

Sets and documents may contain both styles (the list is displayed on the Embedded tab) and links to library styles (the list is displayed on the Library tab).

If you assign a style that is stored directly in a set, this style is copied to the document, that is, Method 1 is used.

If you assign a style that is stored in a set as a link, another link to the same style is created in the document, that is, Method 2 is used.

If you modify a style stored inside the document, the modifications will only apply to this document: the appearance of all objects with this style will change.

If you modify a style stored in the library, the modifications will apply to all the documents containing the objects with this style.

If a document contains a hatch or text with library style, and this library is not found when opening the document (the library may have been deleted, moved or renamed), a warning dialog appears. This dialog box contains the full name of the missing library and the control buttons.

If the library is found but contains no hatch or text style with the specified number, then the style is replaced according to the following rule:

instead of a missing hatch style — system style Metal,

instead of a missing text style — corresponding system style (Text On Drawing, Dimension Texts, etc.).

If you try to open a document that uses a library style, but this library or this style is not found, then the message "Library files not found for certain styles or styles not found in the specified libraries" will appear on the screen.

The typeface of the line that uses the missing style won’t change in the document.
