KOMPAS document template — a blank document containing the detailing, settings, document specialization, objects with parameters, layers, text, etc. Through the use of templates, the detailing and adjustment of new sample documents is accelerated and unified.

Template files have the following extensions:

drawing template — cdt,

fragment template — frt,

text document template — kdt,

BOM template — spt,

part template — m3t,

assembly template — a3t,

Technological assembly template — t3t.

Several templates for drawings, text documents, BOMs, and parts are supplied with KOMPAS-3D (the set of templates depends on the installed system components). The templates are stored in the \Templates subfolder of the main system folder.

You can create your own templates and use them to generate KOMPAS documents. For example, if you need a drawing where all sizes differ from default values. In this case you can create a new template with the required settings and use it for template creation in the future.

If your new documents should have specific parameters, you can create templates for each document type and provide paths to those templates in the Document templates.

When working with a document created from a template, you can change any of the parameters stored in the template.

Processes to create documents and to work with them are detailed further in this section.
