If the model is edited in such a way that it is impossible for any of its objects to exist, taking into account the hierarchy and/or parametric links, KOMPAS-3D issues the relevant diagnostic message. It indicates the specific cause of the conflict or loss of links between the model components (for example, "Operation Lost Reference Object", "Empty Sketch", "Self-Intersection of Contour", etc.).

In this case, the model is not rebuilt (to learn about rebuilding, see section Rebuilding a Model). It retains its state before invoking the editing command. Next to the icons of objects existence of which became impossible after editing, an error sign appears in the Design Tree — a red field with an exclamation mark.

If there is an error in at least one of the model objects (element, component, mating, etc.), an error sign appears not only next to the icon of this object, but also next to the model icon (part or assembly). Due to this, the presence of an error in the model can be noticed even when the Design Tree is completely collapsed.

To find out the error details click on the error sign or select the error object in the Design Tree and call the What is wrong? command from the context menu.

On the screen, there will appear the the dialog, in which errors that occurred while reconstructing this object are listed.

Errors are displayed in the dialog as a structured list. The description of each error is located at the level following the name of the error object.

If you view all the errors in the model, its error components (conceptual masses, auxiliary axes and planes, copies, chamfers, shells, components, matings, etc.) in the list are located at the level following the model name.

To get an explanation of a specific error and general recommendations for its elimination, click on the line of this error. The line will be highlighted in color, and a description of the probable cause of the error and how to correct it will appear below the error list. Consider which of the cases is most similar to the error in your model, note the troubleshooting recommendations and click the Close button in the dialog.

To correct the error, edit the relevant operation, sketch, or mating, or their source objects, as recommended. Often, all you need to do to correct the error is to repeat the editing of the model, that entailed this error, restoring the original values of the parameters of the objects.

If necessary, from the dialog What is wrong? you can go to the error object in the Design tree. To do that. click Go to object in the dialog or start editing the error object. To do that, click Edit.

If the model contains several errors, fix them in the order in which the error elements appear in the Design Tree.

Some errors make impossible the existence of elements, further build operations and editing operations with parts. For example, after editing the contour, the reference vertices for the construction of auxiliary axes and planes disappeared in the sketch, and the derived element cannot be rebuilt (the model has "exploded", you can continue working with the model only after correcting the error).

Other errors are not so critical and do not hamper further operations with the model. For example, when transferring a sketch to another facet, parametric constraints of graphic objects of a sketch were lost. In this case, the graphic objects in the sketch are not rebuilt, the contour formed by them remains the same, and the element constructed on its basis is not destroyed, thus the existence of derived elements remains possible.

In any case, we recommend fixing errors immediately after their occurrence.
