Rebuilding a model can be defined as updating a model. When rebuilding, the shape and position of the model objects are calculated again, thus the model view on the display may change.

If CMP recalculation in the rebuilding process is configured in the system (see the CMP section), during the rebuild process, the stored values of the model's mass and center of gravity coordinates in the model file are updated.

Rebuilding is required if there are conflicts in the model, i.e. model geometry does not correspond to the source data – construction history, operation parameter values, matings, etc. Objects that are sources of conflicts are marked in the Model Construction Tree with a special icon . If there is at least one object that requires rebuilding, the whole model will be marked with this icon in the Tree, thus you can notice the need for rebuilding even if the Tree is completely collapsed.

To rebuild a model, you can use the following options:

click Rearrange in the Quick Access Panel,

click Rearrange on context bar in the graphic area,

press <F5> key.

Conflicts in the model and, therefore, the need for rebuild result from editing.

In some cases the system determines that the model needs rebuilding and issues a rebuild query. For example, this query appears on the screen when the model is loaded if any of the model components does not match the relevant data stored in the model. Such mismatch may result from changes in the component geometry or properties – designation, name, material, etc.

The query window lists the components causing the conflicts.

To rebuild a model click Yes in the query window.

To postpone rebuilding the model click nan. The model rebuild query will disappear, and the icons of the objects requiring rebuilding will be marked with a icon in the Design Tree.

You can rebuild the model at any time by calling the rebuild command, as described above.

If the model comprises multiple components, then re-building can take much time. Therefore, if you need to edit multiple components of a complex model, it is reasonable to rebuild it only once, after making all changes (and not every time you edit a particular component).

If an assembly component contains a copy of objects, the source objects of the copy are located in the same assembly and automatic updates are enabled for the copy, the icon will not disappear after rebuilding the assembly. To avoid such a situation, set manual update for such copies of objects. More details on updating copies of geometric objects...

Sometimes after rebuilding the model, there are signs of an error – exclamation marks on a red background indicating errors in objects build. For example, an element cut from a model was bumped to the facet of some part. Then this part is moved so that the specified facet can no longer limit the extrusion element (i.e., the sketch of the element is either incompletely projected onto this facet, or cannot be projected onto it at all). Cutting the element becomes impossible, and after rebuilding the model, this operation is marked as error in the Design Tree.
