Plotting a grid of points by existing surface |
Scroll |
You can automatically create a grid of points based on an existing surface in the model. As a surface, you can use the following:
•face of a solid or a surface,
•construction or coordinate plane.
To plot points, press the Grid of points over the surface
button above the grid points parameter table, and then specify the surface in the graphic area. The selected surface will be approximated by the spline surface using the grid of points. The phantom of this surface and its points will be displayed in the graphic area.
•If you have selected a construction or coordinate plane as the surface, then the approximating surface would coincide with the rectangle that displays this plane in the model space.
•If you have selected a face as the surface, then the approximating surface would coincide with the theoretical surface of the face. Hence, the holes in the selected face are ignored, and in some cases the borders of the approximating surface are not aligned with the contours of the selected face: the surface overlaps the face. For example, if the selected face is a circle, then the approximating surface would be a square drawn around this circle.

The approximating surface is always a spline surface and, accordingly, its borders are spline curves even if you've selected a plane or an obviously planar face with straight–line edges. |
