Group of points from file

A point group may be plotted using the parameters stored in the data file.

Parameters of points may be read from the following file types:

text file,

Microsoft Excel spreadsheet file,

Open Office spreadsheet file.

The values read from the file may be interpreted as rectangular, cylindrical or spherical coordinates.

Use the Group of points from file command to create a group of points based on data read from a file.

Step-by-step instructions

1.Select the type of the point coordinates by clicking the corresponding button in the Coordinate Type group on the Parameter Panel:

Rectangular — coordinates X, Y, Z;

Cylindrical — coordinates R, A, Z;

Spherical — coordinates R,A,B.

2.Select the file – the data source. To do this, click Source File. The Open File dialog will appear on the screen.

Select the required file in this dialog box and click Open. The filename is displayed in the Source File field. After you select the file, a phantom of the group of points will appear in the graphic area.

3.Select the result of plotting the group of points using the Strew option:

with the option disabled, after the command is completed, the points will be displayed in the Design Tree as objects subordinate to the group,

with the option enabled, after the command is completed, every point will be displayed in the Design Tree as a separate object.

4.Advanced plotting options.

You can select a coordinate system relative to which group points will be located. To do that, use the Coordinate System section. Details...

You can change the name, color and style of the point display. To do that, use the Properties section.

5.To complete the group plotting, click Create object .

The created points will appear in the graphic area, and in the Design Tree – the object Point Group with subordinate point objects or a set of individual points (if the Scatter option was enabled).

6.To complete operation of the command, click Finish button.

The created group of points may preserve Link to the source file.
