Associative views permanently retain a link with models whose images are contained in them. Due to that, any change of model is passed to its view(s). For the same reason, manual editing of the geometry in associative views is impossible.

An associative assembly drawing may contain data required for receiving the assembly BOM. If BOM data is available, it is maintained in an up-to-date state as long as the associative link between the views and the assembly model is preserved. You cannot edit assembly BOM data in the drawing.

If necessary, an associative link of a view to the model may be destroyed. To do this, use the Explode command from the context menu or the context bar when selecting a view in the Design Tree or in the graphic area of the drawing (the command is available for all visible and active associative views).

You can also use the Explode command from the Edit menu.

After destruction, the associative view turns into a set of geometrical objects (segments, arcs, etc.) and becomes a regular custom view in a KOMPAS-3D drawing.

You can edit an image in the exploded view using any methods available in the system: scaling, transformation, editing with "defining points", etc. To learn more about editing geometrical objects, see section Editing and deleting objects in a graphic document.

When exploding a view which is the reference view for constructing projection views, the latter turn into arbitrary views. In other words, a link of projection views to the reference is destroyed, and one with the model – is preserved.

On destruction of a view which is the reference for a view in the arrow direction and views containing leader elements or cuts (sections), these views are destroyed. Note that these views will also be exploded when their corresponding indicators (view arrows, section lines, leader element designations) are exploded.

The BOM data for the assembly, if they were in the assembly drawing, remain in it after the destruction of the assembly associative views, but cease to update when the assembly is modified. These data also become available for editing as if they were manually created in the drawing: the user can modify texts in the BOM items, unlink documents from them, etc.

Exploding associative views is most often applied at the stage of preparation of drawings or at the end of work with them when the link to the model is no longer essential. A drawing with exploded associative links requires less machine resources, it loads and re-builds faster, etc.

If the destruction of an associative view occurred by mistake, then to restore the previous status of the document click Undo on the File toolbar within the tool area of the window.
