Snapping to Model Objects when Working in a Sketch |
Scroll |
When creating geometric objects in a sketch, you can use global and local snaps not only to the geometric objects of this sketch, but also to model objects. To do this, use the Snap to Model Elements command in the menu of the Snaps button
on the Quick Access Bar (when the command is active, a checkmark appears next to its name).
If you want the snapping to be performed only on the elements of the model that are visible at its current position, run the Only to Visible Model Elements command (the command is available if snapping to model objects is enabled).
For details on snaps to geometric objects, see section Snaps. This section contains notes on snapping to model objects.
For snapping, you can use such model objects as points (vertices, origins, etc.) or curves (edges, 3D curves, axes, etc.).
If construction is performed in the parametric mode, then a snap results in the following:
•an auxiliary projection of the objectselected for snapping is created in the sketch,
•the created geometric object is parametrically linked with the projection,
•the necessary constraints are applied to the object and projection.
If the parametric mode is disabled, a geometrical object not linked to anything is built in the sketch.
The snap is performed in a usual way. In the process of constructing the sketch, move the cursor to the required model object. When the construction projection of the selected object, the snapping icon and the snapping point designation ("cross") appear in the sketch plane, click the mouse button or press <Enter>.
For example, if you want to build a segment that starts in the midpoint of an edge projection, run the Segment command, enable the Midpoint global or local snap, and move the cursor to the desired edge. When the projection of this edge appears in the sketch plane and in the midpoint of it a "cross" appears with the Midpoint snap icon next to it, click the mouse button.
Mind the following when snapping to model objects.
•If the object is straight–line and perpendicular to the plane of the sketch, snapping is possible only to the vertices of this object.
•You cannot create two or more construction projections simultaneously. Therefore, it is not possible to perform the Intersection snapping without projecting the crossing objects into the sketch.
If required, you can disable snapping to all objects of the model or only to those that are not visible in its current position by running the corresponding command Snap to Model Elements or Only to Visible Model Elements in the menu of the Snaps button
on the Quick Access Toolbar. The checkmark next to the name of the activated command will disappear.
