In parametric mode when creating a symmetric object using the command Mirror Constraints are applied to the source and mirrored objects. This happens if the entire object and not two of its points (or a point and a slope angle) is specified as symmetry axis.
The applied constraints ensure that the objects are identical and located symmetrically with respect to the selected symmetry axis. For example, when building symmetrical segments, the constraints Symmetry of points are applied to their ends. If construction is performed for circles, then a constraint Point Symmetry is applied to the centers of the circles, and their radii are subject to Radius Equality.
