The edges of surfaces and/or bodies with broken integrity can be extended beyond the specified edges — open edges. Surface extension is accomplished by changing the position of specified edges or by creating new faces adjacent to the specified edges. Faces are extended beyond the specified edges by a specified length or to a specified point object. The user can choose whether the extension will be a part of the original surface or a new surface. When choosing the latter, the extension can be performed on faces of a surface or solid adjacent to an edge (or chain of edges) that is not open.
