The Surface Extension
command is used to extend the specified surface.
Step-by-step instructions
1.Select the ownership of the surface area that will be created as a result of the extension operation. To do this, in the Result group at the top of the Parameters panel, click one of the buttons:
Source surface — the extension section is part of the original surface,
New surface — the extension section represents a new surface.
2.Specify the edges of the surfaces to be extended in the graphic area. If you want to extend one or more faces of a surface beyond all edges, specify the face or faces themselves. The names of the edges and faces are displayed in the Edges field on the Parameters panel. The extended surface section is displayed on the ghost in the graphic area.
When specifying edges, consider the option selected in the Result group.

When specifying edges, consider the option selected in the Result group.
•If the Source surface button is pressed, only open edges (chains of edges) of surfaces and/or bodies with broken integrity can be specified as edges.
•If the New surface button is pressed, you can specify edges not only as open edges, as in the Source surface option, but also edges that are not open. From such an edge (or chain of edges), you can extend one of the two adjacent faces to the edge; when you select an edge, it is highlighted in the graphic area. You can change the face to be extended by clicking the Change direction
to the right of the field Edges.
4.Select the edge extension type using the Extension type group items. The following options are available:
By the same surface,
By tangent,

5.In the Method group of elements, specify the method for extending the edges by clicking the corresponding button, and set the required parameters, see the table.
Methods of extending edges
|
Method |
Rules for plotting |
|
For specified length |
Faces are extended beyond the selected flanges to the specified length. Set the extension in the Length field. |
|
To vertex |
Faces are extended beyond the selected flanges to the selected point object. The name of the selected object is displayed in the Vertex field. You can plot a point object using the Draw point command to the right of the Vertex field. This will start subprocess of plotting a point. |
6.If necessary, specify a name for the surface extension operation in the Properties section of the Parameters panel.
7.To complete the operation, click Create object
.
The specified surface is extended in the graphic area, and a corresponding icon appears in the Design tree.

If the construction results in more than one surface, for example, when specifying non-adjacent open edges as edges and clicking the New surface button in the Result group, the surface set modification process begins after the operation is completed. Select the surfaces to retain. More... Each retained surface is a separate object. You can, for example, change the surface's color, hide it, or move it to a layer. However, they all remain created by the same operation, so editing the operation modifies all of these surfaces. |
8.To complete the command, click the Finish
button.
Tips
•The extension of the edges can be specified using a characteristic point.
•To set linear parameters you can use geometrical calculator.
•You can assign tolerances to the values of operation parameters expressed in linear quantities. To do this, call the Tolerance command located in the menu of the desired parameter, or click the icon
, displayed in the parameter field (the icon is displayed if a tolerance is assigned to the parameter value). More about assigning a tolerance...
