When Plotting a conic section surface The conical curve, located in a section, moves by resting its ends on two directrices.
The following items can be selected as guides:
•3D curve, in case of composite curve — also separate segment,
•edge,
•whole sketch or separate sketch line,
•a chain of the above objects in any combination.
•Ribs, sketch lines, and segments of multi-segment curves are selected in the model's graphic area. A single-segment curve can be specified both in the Design tree and in the graphic area.
If an object intersects or touches another curve (or edge, or sketch line), it can be selected either as a whole or in parts, divided by the points of intersection/tangency. This depends on the state of the Select curve parts button on Quick access area. More...
•To select a sketch or a multi-segment curve as a whole, you need to specify this object in the Design tree or select all sketch lines or curve segments in the graphic area. If you specify a sketch in the Tree:
•if the sketch contains a single chain of objects, it is selected in its entirety,
•f the sketch contains several separate objects/chains of objects, two of them are selected as guides (i.e., the fields for both guides are filled in); in this case, it is possible to use other objects to extend the chains that make up the guides.
•If the curve has subordinate curve objects, you can specify both the entire curve and the objects it contains. More... |
Each guide consist of several objects forming a chain. These objects must be specified in the order in which they are connected.
Objects names, selected as guides, are displayed in fields Guide 1 and Guide 2 of Parameter panel.
When you specify sequentially connected objects all of them will be added to the field of the selected guide. Objects that are not connected to each other will be added to the fields of different guides during when they're specified.
For example, if the Guide 1 field on the Parameters Panel is active and already contains an object, then a connected object specified will be added to the same field, while a standalone object will be added to the Guide 2 field.
If both fields are filled, then the possibility of forming a chain with objects of both the first and second guides will be checked when specifying an object, and the object will be added to the corresponding field. If the object is not connected to any of the guides, then it cannot be specified.

After you set the guiding objects in the graphic area a phantom of the surface constructed by default will appear in the graphic area.
